The causes of poor gas-tightness in hard chrome plating were analyzed and studied. To improve the gas-tightness of electroplated hard chrome layers, a pore-sealing post-treatment technique was employed. The study shows that hard chrome layers treated with the 518 sealing agent can meet the requirements of the “20 MPa, 30-min gas-tightness test with no leakage bubbles in the chromium layer.” The sealing agent penetrates to a depth of 20–30 μm within the plating layer and exhibits good resistance to hydraulic oil.
